Sidney Rice has announced today that he’s going to play this Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

This is very exciting and fantastic news for the Vikings.  I have outlined before the benefits to having Rice on the field for the Vikings.   Rice himself even said he doesn’t expect to play the whole game but it’s time to get him out and knock the rust off that he certainly will have.

Rice will be a free agent this year so re-injury is a big concern.  Expect the Vikings to slowly work him back into the starting line up as long as the Vikings are contenders for the playoffs.   If the Vikings lose this weekend it’s possible that they could shut him down for the rest of the season and place him on season ending injured reserve.
