The Minnesota Vikings turned down a request to be the featured team in HBO’s documentary series, Hard Knocks. The series has taken an in-depth, behind the scenes look at the training camps of several teams throughout the years. Last season’s episodes featured the New York Jets and became very popular due to outspoken coach Rex Ryan and the drama surrounding star cornerback Darrell Revis and his contract holdout.
The Jets and Ryan came under fire from several groups for Ryan’s constant foul language. When HBO asked the Jets to appear this season, the team declined. Subsequently, HBO approached Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Detroit and Denver about appearing. All of them declined, as did the Vikings, making it six teams that have said no to this point.
Vikings owner Zygi Wilf told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that the Vikings have more pressing issues to deal with right now, including their quest for a new stadium and the NFL’s labor strike.
