Back In The Day: (1961) MN Vikings Studying Free Agent List

June 27, 2011 by Nick in Back In The Day
* With news being slow with the lockout I thought I would introduce a “Back in the day” segment to this website.  It will include news that was prevalent to the team in their early days.    Today’s post is from the Miami News in Jan 1961 entitled “Vikings Studying Free Agent List”.

The Minnesota Vikings who will become the National Football League’s 14th team this Fall, today were studing a list of 96 available veterans, hoping to do better than Dallas in its first league season.

Each leage club, with the exception of Dallas which managed one tie and no victories in its first year, had to make available a list of eight players by noon today.  Some were ready last night.  The Vikings can take three from each club.  A total of 36 players for $550,000
