Approximately 100 of 106 panels of the new $18 million Metrodome roof have been installed, and completion is expected by Aug. 1.
Look for the roof, which collapsed during a December snowstorm, to be inflated within a week or so.
With the crew comfortably on schedule, work installing the roof was called off at noon Friday because of the excessively hot weather. The fabric of the new roof reflects sunlight – if it’s 96 degrees at ground level, it could reach 120 degrees on the roof.
A public Metrodome open house is scheduled for Aug. 20, the same day the Minnesota Twins will host the New York Yankees at Target Field. If the NFL lockout is resolved, the Minnesota Vikings are scheduled to host the Dallas Cowboys in an exhibition game Aug. 27 at the Dome.
With very little positive movement going on for the new stadium, its great to see that they are getting the Metrodome in working order. The article also states that if a new stadium bill is passed that its believed the new stadium wouldn’t be completed until 2015 at the earliest. The Vikings are believed to play in the dome until the construction would be completed.
