Receivers Vikings Could Go After To Replace Sidney Rice

July 28, 2011 by Nick in FREE AGENTS

With news that Sidney Rice left the Vikings for a huge contract in Seattle we now are in a situation where we need to find a new receiver.  Let’s go over who’s available in free agency and who could help fill in a major hole Rice has left.

Braylon Edwards

Edwards can jump and could be a lesser substitute for Rice.  He has been in trouble in the past so the Vikes would have to monitor this guy and hope he can grow up a little bit from his Cleveland, Jets days.

Roy Williams

Williams was a bust trade for the Cowboys who sent more then a first round pick to the Lions.  Williams could be a great camp body and if he could be signed cheap could be a great compliment to Harvin this year.

James Jones

I’m not a fan of taking the Packers ‘left overs’ but this guy can play.  The Packers simply can’t afford to pay him, Driver, Jennings, and company.   Just like Williams, if we could get him for a good price then it would be an interesting proposition bringing him into town.

Mike Sims-Walker

This guy will ultimately make more money then we can afford to pay him.  However, I think Sims-Walker could be a possible #1 receiver which would allow Harvin to play in the #2 or even #3 slot role which he excels in best.  Sims-Walker is a vertical threat that can also go over the middle when needed.   This guy is my top pick.

What other receivers do you think would be a good fit for the Vikings?  Can anyone fill the shoes of Sidney Rice?
