DE Ray Edwards going to Atlanta Falcons

July 29, 2011 by Jeff in FREE AGENTS

Free agent DE Ray Edwards has found his next home in Atlanta. According to Jay Glazer, the Falcons have agreed to terms with Edwards, who left the Minnesota Vikings for free agency. Glazer reports it’s a five-year deal and we don’t know the terms yet.

Edwards can’t officially sign the deal until Friday night at 6:00 p.m. (ET) and, according to the new labor deal, can’t practice until Aug. 4.

This is a move a lot of people have been expecting.  Ray Edwards has been very public throughout the offseason about not wanting to come back to the Vikings.  Here’s a quote Ray Edwards made addressing the situation earlier in the year:

“I’ve openly said I won’t play for the Vikings, because of the simple fact of my backup is getting paid 70 percent than I am – there’s no way I can do that to myself.”

It’s definitely sad to see Ray go, but I’m happy for him at the same time. When he is on his game, he is one of the best DT in the league

My favorite Ray Edwards moment was him predicting he would break the single season sack record….that was a good one!!

This guy has always been playing for a paycheck. Now that he has one I wonder how motivated he’ll be.

The only reason people ever got excited for him was because he had maybe two games with 3 sack. Other than that he’s been a non-factor.
