What Vikings Players Are Worth Drafting In Fantasy Football This Year?
Adrian Peterson – This is a no brainer pick. A.P. has routinely been a top 5 running back and is one of the few work horses left in the league. If you have an opportunity to draft him in the first round YOU TAKE HIM! Expect Adrian Peterson to be the number one overall pick in most leagues with almost no chance of him dropping past #3.
Donovan McNabb – McNabb is a wild card pick this season. If he plays like he did last season then you would want to avoid him. However, the Vikings offense already has the best running back in the league and an explosive receiver in Percy Harvin. McNabb also has two weapons at tight end in Visanthe Shianco and Kyle Rudolph. Take a gander on McNabb in the later round of the draft. He would be a fantastic backup for a QB drafted earlier in the draft.
Percy Harvin – Harvin is always a question mark with his migraines that spring up out of nowhere. Supposedly the migraine issues are gone so this could be the year he explodes. He will also be one of the main receiving threats now that Rice has left for Seattle. Harvin could be a draft day steal in round 4 or later.
Visanthe Shiancoe / Kyle Rudolph – The Vikings offense will definitely lean heavily on a two tight end set this year. This means Shiancoe, Rudolph or both could explode this year. Shiancoe has proven to be a great endzone threat so he could put up some solid fantasy points this year. Look for Shiancoe to be your main man later in the draft after the top 3 or 4 TE go off the board. Rudolph could be a fantastic free agent pick up or a first/second round pick in rookie only drafts.
Christian Ponder – Until Ponder is starting he not worth anything but a free agent pick up. If the Vikings bench McNabb Ponder could immediately become a solid #2 QB.
Ryan Longwell – If you’re looking for a clutch kicker then Longwell is your guy. I still wouldn’t reach for longwell as kickers are a dime a dozen. Draft him towards the last two rounds of your draft.
Vikings Defense – For the last couple years the Vikings defense was a routine top 5 fantasy football defense. With the departure of Pat Williams, Ben Leber, and Ray Edwards you may want to go a different direction. The Vikings also made no changes in their secondary. In fact, they cut their starting safety. If you can get this defense late in the draft they may be good against certain match ups but you may be better off going a different direction.
What Vikings players are you targeting this season? Is it hard for you to not ‘reach’ for a Vikings player simply because you want them on your team?
