Husain Abdullah, and undrafted free agent in 2008 has been waiting for his big opportunity.  When Safety Medieu Williams was cut last month Abdullah tentatively stepped into the starting role.  With the Vikings failing to acquire a big name safety it now looks like its Abdullah’s position to lose.

When asked about his transition to the NFL and how the coaches embrace him, he responded: “When I came in in ’08, they were saying a lot of good things, but you’re undrafted and you say, “I don’t know if they really want me,”

Abdullah is the first to admit that more playing time means taking on a lot more responsibility.  Something Abdullah is more than willing to take on.  “Just making sure everybody’s lined up, on the same page, making sure there’s no blown coverages,” Abdullah said. “I’ll take that upon myself where if that does happen, I’ll take thatresponsibility. I like to pride myself on being a smart football player.”
