Open House At Metrodome August 20th To Celebrate New Roof

August 15, 2011 by Nick in Metrodome
The following information comes directly from the Minnesota Vikings official website.   It sure will be nice to see the Metrodome in  perfect working order.   For anyone interested in getting a bigger/longer look at the dome without having to fight the crowds on any given Sunday would really enjoy it.   If you’re going to this event and want to take pictures we would love to show them to the world.  Please contact me if your interested in sharing.

The Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission (MSFC) announced today that it will host an open house on Saturday, August 20 to celebrate the completion of the new Metrodome roof and turf.

The event is free and will showcase the variety of events hosted at the Metrodome throughout the year, including Minnesota Vikings football, Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam®, University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Athletics and live entertainment.  The first 3,000 attendees will receive a piece of the Metrodome’s old roof.

The open house also includes the WE CARE Celebration and Community Building Event that recognizes the contributions of the thousands of community volunteers who responded to the May 22 tornado in North Minneapolis.  The event also offers back to school assistance for families affected by the tornado.

Tailgating activities begin at 1:00 p.m. on the plaza.  At 1:45 p.m., Grave Digger will participate in a crushing demonstration in the Metrodome parking lot.  After the demonstration, Grave Digger, Grinder and their drivers will be available for autographs and photos on the floor of the Metrodome.

Starting at 2:00 p.m., activities will begin inside the Metrodome. Live music featuring Auburn, Protegee, West of Aldine and the Best Mass Choir with Shanice Wilson will begin at 2:15 p.m.  Team mascots, former Minnesota Vikings players and Vikings Cheerleaders will be available for photos and autographs.  Student Athletes from the University of Minnesota Softball and Baseball programs will also be participating.  Tours will be conducted throughout the open house. Other games and activities will be occurring on the field and Rollerblade Rollerdome will be taking place on the upper concourse.

The public will also have an opportunity to meet with Minnesota Vikings ticket representatives to check out available season ticket seat locations, club seating and to purchase tickets for the upcoming season.

Food and beverage will be available at a discounted rate.  Limited free parking is available.  Entrance at Gates D or H.  Those planning to attend the Minnesota Twins or Minnesota Lynx games taking place on Saturday are invited to allow some extra time to stop by the Metrodome before attending those events.

The open house celebration will mark the first time the entire Metrodome will be open to the public since the December 12, 2010 roof deflation.
