There was a lot of excitement last week with the Metrodome open house celebrating the brand new roof and the new field turf. Unfortunately, the excitement ended Saturday as most realized that a spit shined Metrodome was still indeed the Metrodome. The Vikings have eagerly campaigned for a new stadium in the proposed Arden Hills location. So far the efforts have been moot. At this point the Governor will have to call a special session for a vote to occur. No details have been announced at this time to hold such a session.
When Vikings defense end Jared Allen was interviewed during the Vikings / Seahawks game he was asked about his thoughts on going back home to play in the Metrodome. To this he replied:
“Excited about the Metrodome?” Allen said while laughing. “No. We need a new facility. That’s the worst stadium in the NFL.”
The Vikings have requested a new stadium, the players are calling the Metrodome the worst stadium in the NFL and even the fans are screaming for something new. Nobody at this time knows the progress of a new stadium either. All I know is that something must get worked out before the Vikings exercise their option to leave the state of Minnesota in 2012.
