Vikings Sign Defensive End Stylez White To One-Year Deal
Jared Allen is the lone ranger this season with experience at the position, after losing Ray Edwards to the Atlanta Falcons this offseason. The Vikings have played two preseason games without a solid defensive end besides Allen. Allen can’t do all the work by himself, so hopefully this will pay off.
In his four year stint with Tampa Bay, he recorded 24 sacks. His best season came as a rookie in 2007. The former Minnesotan Gophher recorded eight sacks and seven forced fumbles. The funny thing is, he only started two of the 16 games he played in that season.
He is a very durable player, he’s only missed one game out of 64 due to health issues. He is a very speedy player as well, and will shut down the pass before the blink of an eye.
White will be replacing backup offensive linemen Scott Kooistra on the 90-man roster. Kooistra got a neck injury that placed him on the injured reserve list this past Saturday, when the Vikings faced the Seahawks.
White was one of the best pass-rushers in the 4-3 defense last season and he’ll add depth to this roster. He gives the defensive line a veteran feel to the position and could help out the younger guys, definitely.
Welcome back to Minnesota. Let’s hope you can take the starting job and help Allen demolish every quarterback the Vikings play against.
