After the Game

Vikings Get 2nd Win Against Panthers 24-21

October 31, 2011 by Nick in After the Game

The Vikings did it! They secured their second victory of the season today against the Panthers.  Granted the game probably should have gone into overtime in which who knows what the outcome would have been.  However – it did not and we’ll take a victory anyway we can!

In the battle of first round quarterback rookies both Ponder and Newton looked good today.  Ponder made some very good throws including a touchdown toss to Adrian Peterson.  At times Ponder still showed that he is very much still a rookie.  When the pocket starts to implode Ponder is very eager to run the ball instead of continuing to read his defense.  This i’m guessing will continue to be both his biggest asset and his biggest enemy in the future.  Regardless the good news is that he continues to show improvement and has a good mentor on the sideline to coach him in McNabb.

Adrian Peterson once again had a great game.  He was just shy of 100 yards for both rushing and receiving.  Peterson did however notch 2 more touchdowns to his career.

The defense also played pretty well.  Jared Allen added another sack to his pro-bowl level season.  Will he be able to challenge Strahan’s sack record this year?  If he continues playing this well its definitely possible.

Next week the Vikings have a much needed BYE week.  The Vikings will be marching into GreenBay the following week where Ponder will surely want another crack at beating the SuperBowl champion and currently undefeated Packers.
