Missed Facemask Call Causes 11th Vikings Loss

December 12, 2011 by Nick in After the Game

You all watched the game.  Joe Webb is just a few short yards away from the endzone, snaps the ball, drops back and as he gets the ball knocked out of his hands he also has his facemask nearly ripped off his face.   No flags, the ball is recovered by the Lions and the Viking lose their 11th game of the season.

Now I won’t even get started on the facemask call because a lot more should have been done by the Vikings to even prevent that play from happening.  With 9 seconds left on the clock you have to wonder why they would attempt a quick pass to the endzone or even a fullback dive or a QB sneek with Joe Webb.  9 seconds could have even been enough time to spike the ball if things went bad.

Play calling and game time coaching has been horrible this season.   The only thing worse in my opinion has been the play of our offensive line.  I sure hope Kallil doesn’t opt to stay in college as he should be the Vikings unanimous draft pick in April.  After the QB position the left tackle position is by far the most valuable one on the team.  Without a solid line how can Ponder truly develop.  This kid didn’t even get 3 seconds before routinely being crushed by opposing defenders.   Yikes!
